The free flowing hallowed halls of our colleges and universities throughout the country will be abuzz with new students eagerly absorbing knowledge. As these colleges and universities prepare for another year, they find themselves in a new battle with cyber thieves who are trying to absorb information for free. As reported in the New York Times on July 16, 2013, our colleges and universities are defending themselves from millions, yes millions, of cyber attacks each week. Because our educational institutions were designed to be free flowing and creative, being awarded thousands of patents each year, some with tremendous value in the bio-medical, technology, fuel and medical device areas, these institutions are prime targets for cyber thieves. As a result, colleges and universities now have to allocate millions of dollars to cyber security budgets, something that was not even a line item just a few years ago.
