In the past year, cheerleaders from several NFL teams, including the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Oakland Raiders have filed wage and hour lawsuits against their respective teams.

The lawsuits have generally alleged that the cheerleaders were not paid for all hours worked or reimbursed for expenses. The Oakland Raiders have recently agreed to settle class action claims brought by their cheerleaders in California. In particular, the Raiders have agreed to pay $1.25 million to compensate for all hours worked, reimbursement for business expenses, and attorney’s fees. In the future, the cheerleaders’ annual compensation will increase from approximately $1,250 to $3,200. The settlement is subject to court approval, but it may lead to settlements of similar lawsuits against other NFL franchises.
