Clearly shale energy is transforming the US economy - why not the world? There is an interesting article about this in today’s Wall Street Journal. According to the article, “Among the reasons for the glacial pace abroad are government ownership of mineral rights, environmental concerns and a lack of infrastructure to drill and transport gas and oil.” Poland (modest initial results), China (water issues) and Argentina (government overreaching) have disappointed investors. France and Bulgaria have banned fracking all together because of environmental concerns.
BUT – worldwide reserves are plentiful and the demand continues to grow for this cheaper natural gas. It is only a matter of time before development takes place. A global market will evolve for natural gas as LNG exporting takes place along side more international E&P.
