Recently, a DOE commissioned report was issued that indicates that exporting natural gas from the US (via LNG) would be beneficial to the US economy.  No exports are currently taking place but one license has been granted and the US DOE is processing 15 different applications for LNG permits.

This article discusses the views of Dow Chemical and concludes “ if the Energy Department approves too many export licenses, natural gas prices would be pushed skyward, jeopardizing some $90 billion in planned capital spending by US industrials.” We may see an interesting alliance between industrials and environmentalists to oppose the LNG export effort.
