This article from Columbus Business First provides a nice status report on drilling activity in Ohio and Pennsylvania.  Ohio has now crossed the 200 mark in the number of wells drilled.  At the same time, PA is averaging 1300 drilled wells a year over the last four years.  The article states:

“But as many oil and natural gas people [note], Ohio’s shale play is still in its infancy while Pennsylvania’s has been running full bore for about five years . . .  Ohio may be starting to catch up.  Jobs Ohio’s energy chief David Mustine said in November there are 27 rigs drilling in Ohio’s Utica shale play, which is about the same number of as those operating in the Marcellus shale plays in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.”

Ohio is in the midst of a historic economic development event.  Even with all the positive numbers over the last year, it is important to realize that we are only scratching the surface.
