While skeptics question the shale gas industry’s claim that drilling for natural gas creates thousands of jobs for local communities, the latest statistics overwhelmingly support this conclusion.

A study recently conducted at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found that the shale gas industry has brought over 45,000 building trade jobs to Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland since 2008.  The study analyzed thirteen trades related to natural gas exploration, starting in 2008 and continuing through the first half of 2014.  The figures are based on an examination of actual hours worked.

As a result of the increase in local jobs, hotels, restaurants and even automobile dealerships are seeing an increase in profits associated with the economic boom.  The same study also found that the shale gas industry has contributed $5 billion in spending to the economy.

All signs indicate that the Utica Shale will continue in this pattern of economic boom, providing thousands of local jobs throughout Ohio in the coming years as shale exploration continues.

How will your business benefit from continued shale exploration?
