Tallahassee, Fla.  – The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy is pleased to announce that Raquel (Rocky) Rodriguez has joined the nonprofit’s Investment Committee.

Rodriguez is an attorney with more than 30 years of experience in a wide variety of government, business and litigation matters. She currently serves as the managing member of the Miami office for McDonald Hopkins LLC, a national business advisory and advocacy law firm. Previously, she served as general counsel to former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, working on some of the most complex and urgent issues facing the state during his administration. Her extensive legal experience also includes serving as executive director of Multilaw, a London-based multinational association of independent law firms; as a shareholder at a national law firm; and as a partner at an international firm.

“Our Foundation’s pledge is that our donations are used wisely and with full transparency,” said Liza McFadden, President and CEO of the Barbara Bush Foundation. “Through her years of work in the Sunshine—both in private and public capacities—Rocky has built extensive expertise in maintaining that same kind of transparency, and she will be a highly valuable addition to the committee.”

Rodriguez’s vast public service experience includes an appointment by the Florida Governor and Cabinet to the Board of Trustees for the Florida Workers’ Compensation Joint Underwriting Association. During her tenure, she served as Chair of the Audit Committee and as a member of the Investment Committee and Compensation Committee for the Association.

The Barbara Bush Foundation has created its investment portfolio through careful and conservative management, with the primary objective of protecting the principal investment. The Investment Committee, which provides oversight and guidance for the portfolio, is composed of a stalwart group of business professionals, most of whom serve in investment management capacities with national organizations or were appointed for their business acumen.

Rodriguez has received national and statewide recognition for her work, including selection for the prestigious Best Lawyers in America list in 2016, and being named as a Florida Super Lawyer for eight consecutive years. She is a graduate of the University of Miami, where she earned her J.D., summa cum laude, in 1985, and her bachelor of arts, summa cum laude, in 1982.
