David H. Gunning II named Real Estate Practice Chair at McDonald Hopkins

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CLEVELAND, Ohio
(March 9, 2015)– David H. Gunning II, a prominent real estate attorney and member at McDonald Hopkins LLC, has been appointed chair of the business advisory and advocacy law firm’s national Real Estate Practice. He is leading a highly skilled team of more than 25 real estate attorneys.

Gunning joined McDonald Hopkins in March 2014 after serving as president and chief executive officer of APM Management, LLC, one of the leading multifamily real estate acquisition and management companies in the Midwest. Prior to that, Gunning was a partner at Roetzel & Andress.

“David Gunning has become integral to our business teams in the year that he has been with us,” said Charles B. Zellmer, chair of the firm’s Business Department. “He is recognized in the real estate industry as a deal maker and problem solver for complex and challenging issues.”

Gunning’s experience spans the areas of real estate, finance, construction, and general corporate law, including real estate acquisition and dispositions, joint venture agreements, investor relations, negotiations/contracts, litigation management, and fund development.

In his role at APM Management Gunning helped the company in the sale of more than 5300 apartments in a portfolio sale, steered APM’s growth from less than 500 apartments to 4500 in one year, established new joint venture partners and private investors, and raised equity.

Gunning has represented national lenders and other financial institutions; borrowers; national, regional and local developers; institutional and corporate owners; national retailers, and privately held businesses.

A member of the boards of Cleveland State University, Greater Cleveland YMCA (where he is the past board chair), and Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation, Gunning also serves on the Leadership Counsel for the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital and the board of the Neighborhood Centers Association. He was an elected member of the Ohio Republican State Central Committee’s 21st District from 2006 to 2012.

Gunning earned a J.D. from Cleveland Marshall School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lake Forest College.
