Law 360 article by Christine Czuprynski and Kate Jarrett: "New Ariz. Cyberattack Info Sharing May Be Worth The Burden"

News

Law360 has published "New Ariz. Cyberattack Info Sharing May Be Worth The Burden" by McDonald Hopkins attorneys Christine Czuprynski and Kate Jarrett.

The article, which was posted in Law360's "Expert Commentary" section on May 19 and in its "Cybersecurity and Privacy" newsletter a day later, focuses on Arizona's latest amendment to its breach notification law, which now requires notice to the Arizona Department of Homeland Security for breaches affecting more than 1,000 individuals. While Arizona is not the first state to require notice to multiple state agencies as a result of a data breach, it is the first state to require notice to the Department of Homeland Security.

This reporting requirement better positions AZDOHS to collect information about current trends, risks and/or vulnerabilities responsible for cybersecurity incidents, further strengthening the State’s arsenal with tools and intelligence to combat criminal activity. The hope is that this information sharing and cooperation between cyber experts and government agencies will ultimately help public and private entities prepare for, prevent, and mitigate data security incidents.
