Martin T. McElligott
Martin is an associate in the firm’s national Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group. Martin regularly advises clients of all sizes and industries through data breaches and potential data security incidents, where he works closely with local, state and federal law enforcement, forensic investigators and third-party cybersecurity vendors to offer his clients efficient and effective breach response services in compliance with various privacy and data security laws and regulations, including, but not limited to, the CCPA, COPPA, FERPA, GLBA, HIPAA/HITECH, and GDPR. In recognition of his efforts in this area, Super Lawyers has identified Martin as a “Rising Star" in Illinois in 2019 and 2020.
Martin also has represented clients in various commercial litigation matters, including litigation arising from data security incidents. Additionally, Martin has represented clients in matters/investigations involving the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission as well as other regulators. Martin has represented client interests in various legal settings including during regulatory interviews, negotiations, depositions, and judicial/administrative hearings. Martin earned a J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2015. He received a B.A, from the University of Illinois in 2011.
