Stacey Kalamaras

Stacey Kalamaras is an attorney in McDonald Hopkins' Chicago office and a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Department. Her practice focuses on trademark counseling, prosecution, and enforcement; copyright counseling; advertising and brand management; licensing agreements; and corporate transactions. She brings to McDonald Hopkins a combination of large law firm and in-house legal experience as well as business management experience working for multi-national corporations.

Trademark counseling, prosecution, and enforcement
Stacey has managed the global trademark portfolios of numerous clients and has experience in all areas of U.S. and foreign trademark prosecution and maintenance, including preparing and filling trademark applications and maintenance documents, counseling clients regarding trademark clearance, and developing trademark protection and enforcement programs, including the enforcement of trademarks on the internet under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy.

Stacey has been involved in numerous trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board to protect and defend clients' trademarks. She has prepared all aspects of discovery in board proceedings, including motion practice and successfully bringing a summary judgement motion.

Copyright counseling
Stacey counsels clients with respect to many issues involving copyrights, including work-for-hire issues, assignments, enforcement, and related issues.

Advertising and brand management
Stacey assists clients in developing advertising campaigns and in selecting and clearing advertising slogans and claims. In addition to trademark and copyright considerations, her experience includes advising clients about claim substantiation, false advertising claims, rights of publicity claims, as well as sweepstakes and promotions counseling. Stacey also counsels clients concerning escheat laws and consumer protection laws for gift cards.

Licensing and corporation transactions
Stacey drafts all types of intellectual property license agreements as well as co-sponsorship agreements, joint promotion agreements, vendor agreements, master advertising agency agreements, and similar agreements that affect brands. Moreover, Stacey advises clients on the intellectual property aspects in mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to her career as a lawyer, Stacey spent more than 12 years working for numerous multi-national corporations in marketing communications, brand management and advertising. Stacey earned a J.D. cum laude from The John Marshall Law School, a MBA from DePaul University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Vermont.
