Associate – Business Restructuring (CHI)

The Chicago office of McDonald Hopkins LLC seeks an associate to join its Business Restructuring Services Department.  The ideal candidate will have an interest in bankruptcy and restructuring matters and 0-4 years of experience in the practice of law.  We counsel distressed companies, buyers of distressed companies, and large creditors of distressed companies.  Sometimes our work ends up in a chapter 11 bankruptcy, but much of the time we’re doing out-of-court transactions and resolving the situation with some other business solution.  The common theme in all of our matters is that there is not enough cash or value to satisfy all the parties involved, so we have to be creative business counselors, with a transactional mindset, in addition to being very strong technical lawyers.  Our work is challenging, but it is also stimulating and fun.  We are looking for an associate with intelligence, drive, creativity, and adaptability.  We don’t fit neatly into either litigation or transactional law.  If you have some restructuring experience, great.  If not, but you have a strong background in finance, mergers and acquisitions, or litigation, we can train you on the pure restructuring stuff.  We have one of the preeminent restructuring practices in the middle market and plan to keep growing our practice.  This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to build a career doing interesting work that requires a different approach with each new matter.  This is not for someone who wants to sit in an office and just do research.  Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, writing sample, and law school transcript.

McDonald Hopkins does not currently accept unsolicited resumes through or from search firms or headhunters.
