A hacker breached Burger King’s official Twitter account on Monday, replacing the BK name and logo with the Golden Arches of McDonald’s. The page was also hacked with profanity-filled tweets. The account - still listed under @BurgerKing - had also changed its name to “McDonalds.”
Burger King's Twitter profile information said, "Just got sold to McDonalds because the whopper flopped." It also included the misspelled line "FREDOM IS FAILURE" and a dead link to a press release.
Burger King’s Twitter account was restored later in the day and the company tweeted, “Interesting day here at BURGER KING, but we’re back! Welcome to our new followers. Hope you all stick around!” McDonald's also tweeted, "We empathize with our @BurgerKing counterparts. Rest assured, we had nothing to do with the hacking."
The illegitimate tweets have been deleted. No word on who may have been responsible for the breach.
