On Thursday, September 5, a mother and her daughter filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of Chicago-area patients whose unencrypted information may have been acquired by thieves who stole four (4) computers from Advocate Medical Center’s administrative office, a medical healthcare services company.  According to the complaint, patients’ names, addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers were among the data kept in the computers, which were password-protected, but not encrypted.  Though patients’ records were not stored on the computers, other clinical information such as patients’ diagnoses were.  More to come as this litigation continues.
