More than 500 permits for horizontal wells in Ohio's Utica shale have been issued by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. 60 of those wells were drilled in 2012. Yet, we have precious little firm evidence about what is actually in the ground. This is about to change. By the end of this month, producers are required to turn over their 2012 results to the State, and the public should receive the information shortly thereafter.
