While I have not actually seen a landlord try to pass its vacation costs through to its tenants, I have had clients whose landlords have passed through their travel costs (including plane tickets, food and lodging costs) to tenants related to their travel between their properties and for attending real estate conferences.  Other examples of expenses that tenants might not appreciate paying for include, fancy artwork or sculptures for the building lobby, donations to charities or political causes and above market payments to companies affiliated with the landlord for performing services.  When reviewing a new lease, it is important to expressly spell out not only the fixed monthly rent, but also, what operating costs the landlord can and cannot pass through to the tenants.
