WASHINGTON, D. C. - It's been a few years since Steve LaTourette appeared on the ballot in Northeast Ohio, but the former congressman from Bainbridge Township still closely monitors nationwide election results in his new capacity as a Tea Party counterbalance in the Republican party.
Now heading the Republican Main Street Partnership and operating the group's political action committees, LaTourette on Tuesday night declared incumbent Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran's victory over Tea Party challenger Chris McDaniel to be "yet another voter rebuke" of candidates funded by the conservative Club for Growth.
The ex-congressman often criticizes Club for Growth for backing primary challengers to GOP incumbents it deems insufficiently conservative. He argues GOP general election results suffer if its primary voters select candidates the broader electorate will reject.
