Sara Hutchins Jodka Joins McDonald Hopkins
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COLUMBUS, Ohio (January 9, 2015) -- Sara Hutchins Jodka has joined the Columbus office of McDonald Hopkins as senior counsel in the firm’s Litigation Department. She works with clients in the firm’s Data Privacy and Cybersecurity, and Labor and Employment Practice Groups.
The McDonald Hopkins Columbus office continues to grow since merging with Welin, O’Shaughnessy + Scheaf in February 2014 and the addition of Todd Snitchler, the former chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO), in April.
Jodka joins McDonald Hopkins from an Am Law 200 firm headquartered in Columbus, Ohio where she counseled businesses on labor and employment issues and defended employers against employment-related claims before administrative agencies and in federal and state courts. Her relevant experience includes litigating cases regarding restrictive covenants; trade secrets; and employment issues, including those brought under the ADA, ADEA, COBRA, ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, OWBPA, Sections 1981 and 1983, SOX, Title VII, WARN, as well as discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower and other employment-related and comparable state law claims.
She has experience representing employers, consumer reporting agencies, and information furnishers against claims brought under the FCRA regarding background check procedures.
Jodka also regularly advises clients on social media, cyber smearing, workplace privacy, and the management, extraction and authentication of electronically stored information. “Sara has been at the forefront of a number of important workplace and data privacy issues and she is an outstanding addition to our data privacy and labor and employment teams,” said William J. O’Neill, chair of McDonald Hopkins’ Litigation Department.
Jodka received her J.D. from Capital University Law School, where she graduated cum laude and was given the honor of the Order of the Curia. She was recognized by Ohio Super Lawyers in the area of Employee Defense Litigation, and is the creator and former editor of the Employer Law Forecast, a first-of-its-kind website that organizes yearly reoccurring employment law content by season so employers can anticipate and prepare for seasonable workplace issues.
Additionally, Jodka is a frequent speaker and author on data privacy and labor and employment issues, and among her community activities, she serves on the board of OhioDance and serves on the United Way of Central Ohio’s Women’s Leadership Counsel.
