McDonald Hopkins welcomes Certified Information Privacy Professional Nicholas A. Kurk to Chicago office
Certified Information Privacy Professional Nicholas A. Kurk has joined McDonald Hopkins LLC as a member in the firm’s Chicago office.
Kurk concentrates his practice on data privacy and cybersecurity as well as intellectual property litigation matters. He has experience conducting internal investigations in the wake of data breaches, litigating privacy-related class actions, advising clients regarding their use and protection of consumer and employee data under various privacy laws, such as the SCA, GDPR and CCPA. His experience includes developing privacy notices, privacy policies, security programs and incident response plans.
As a litigator, Kurk resolves intellectual property and complex commercial disputes in venues throughout the country. His patent litigation experience includes the handling of complex patent, trademark and copyright infringement cases on behalf of a broad range of sophisticated clients, including software developers, drug discovery companies, and manufacturers.
“The addition of an attorney like Nicholas, who is a CIPP/US and has successfully litigated multimillion-dollar cases, adds strength and depth to both our Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group and our Litigation Department,” said James J. Giszczak, who serves as chair of McDonald Hopkins’ Litigation Department and co-chair of the Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group.
Kurk earned his J.D. in 2006 from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, where he ranked first in his class. While at Detroit Mercy, Kurk was a member of the Law Review and Moot Court as well as the Alpha Sigma Nu and Frank Murphy Honor Societies. He received a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from Michigan State University in 2002.
