McDonald Hopkins welcomes experienced trademark attorney Suzanne Ketler as member in Cleveland
CLEVELAND — Suzanne K. Ketler has joined McDonald Hopkins LLC as a member in its Cleveland office, where she will add her extensive experience as a trademark attorney to the firm’s Intellectual Property Department.
Ketler provides clients with strategic analysis for the development and protection of their intellectual property rights. Her practice includes managing complex trademark portfolios for clients in various industries, including manufacturers, retailers, utility companies, financial companies, media companies, health care organizations, health insurance providers, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, food and beverage companies, and other large and small businesses.
“Sue is an incredibly strong trademark attorney who will provide clients with strong branding strategies that align with business objectives,” said David Cupar, chair of the McDonald Hopkins Intellectual Property Department. “She is also a fantastic team player and a pleasure to work with.”
Ketler regularly advises clients on trademark selection, clearance, protection, enforcement, and related branding strategies. She also represents and obtains successful outcomes for clients in intellectual property disputes, including trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings, UDRP proceedings, and trademark, trade dress, and copyright infringement cases. Her expertise in trademark law helps her assist clients in overcoming difficult and complex office actions, and in obtaining registration of desired trademarks on a regular basis.
In her practice, Ketler also assists clients with copyright registration and effective copyright protection and enforcement. She negotiates and drafts software licensing and service agreements that are advantageous for clients, and she assists clients with all legal aspects of setting up and launching online and internet-based businesses. She also handles all legal aspects of publishing and media production for her clients' creative endeavors and assists in the development and implementation of privacy and cybersecurity policies.
Ketler earned her J.D., graduating cum laude, in 2001 from Northwestern University School of Law. While in law school, she was a published author and served as an articles board member on the Northwestern University Law Review. She also participated in an international team project in Australia and New Zealand.
A Fulbright Fellow to Italy and a Mellon Fellow, Ketler earned a Doctorate in Philosophy and Anthropology in 1997 from the University of Pittsburgh, where she was also a teaching fellow and the author of numerous published articles and book reviews.
Ketler earned a BA in History from Northwestern University in 1988, graduating in three years as a National Merit Scholar. She speaks both conversational Italian and French.
