Republicans assemble budget SWAT team
In a last ditch effort to secure a deal on a 2017 budget, House Republicans have created what they are describing as a budget "SWAT team."
Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price (R-GA) is leading the effort made up of eight GOP House members.
For months now, Republicans have battled over a budget. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) and his leadership team want to stick to the $1.07 trillion spending levels negotiated by then-Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) last year. House conservatives have insisted that they oppose this effort and instead favor further spending cuts.
Interestingly enough, Freedom Caucus Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) is a member of the budget SWAT team, even though his Freedom Caucus has been the most vocal opponents of Ryan's budget approach.
