McDonald Hopkins' members explain the importance of mentorship on Cleveland's WKYC

For the past 6 years, McDonald Hopkins has been proud partners with the College Now program. We’ve provided mentorship to dozens of local students who are Say Yes to Education scholarship recipients. The program has paid the college tuition of virtually every Cleveland Metropolitan School District high school graduate since 2019, and as recipients, the students receive a mentor when they begin their college careers.

To promote mentorship, every April the NBC affiliated TV station, WKYC, promotes ‘Mentor Monday,’ highlighting the program and why adults throughout Northeast Ohio should sign up to be mentors.

Katherine Wensink and Dave Kall were featured on the April 15th episode of WKYC's Good Company show, discussing the reasons why they love being a mentor.

"So many of the students that are coming up through College Now and through the Say Yes to Education program don’t have the support system. They don’t have generations of people that have gone before them to college. These are first time college students and so they need the resources and people that have been there, because what we think are little problems could be monumental to a college student," said Wensink to the host of the show.
