McDonald Hopkins welcomes veteran patent attorney to its Intellectual Property Department
McDonald Hopkins is proud to welcome Tom Stine as Counsel to its Intellectual Property Department. Tom brings with him decades of experience in all facets of intellectual property and patent law.
“McDonald Hopkins’ esteemed reputation and track record of success drew me in. But the innovation, culture and collaboration of the Intellectual Property team really swayed me. I know this is the correct next step for my career,” Tom said.
His practice primarily focuses on patent prosecution, both domestically and internationally, along with IP portfolio management, litigation, and strategic counseling. Throughout his career, he has advised clients across a variety of industries on patent, trademark, and copyright issues in both the U.S. and abroad.
“We are thrilled to have someone with Tom’s experience and deep knowledge of intellectual property law join our team. We know he will bring exceptional value in addressing the unique needs of our clients,” said David Cupar, chair of McDonald Hopkins’ Intellectual Property Department.
Prior to his work at McDonald Hopkins, Tom was partner at a highly esteemed intellectual property firm. In 2012, Tom founded Stine Law Ltd., a boutique intellectual property law firm in Chicago, where he provided comprehensive legal services in patent law and intellectual property management for a decade.
Tom’s journey in intellectual property law began after earning his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. Before pursuing a legal career, he worked as an engineer for several different organizations, these engineering roles provided Tom with a deep technical foundation, which has been invaluable in his legal practice. He received his Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, where he previously returned to serve as an adjunct professor of law.
Tom will be working from the firm’s Chicago office.
