Overview
Garrett is an Associate in McDonald Hopkins’ national data privacy and cybersecurity practice group. His knowledge extends to all aspects of data privacy law, but his practice specifically focuses on incident response. He has experience advising clients across industries on managing and mitigating cyber threats, coordinating regulatory compliance efforts, and responding to data breaches on a global scale.
Prior to joining McDonald Hopkins, Garrett guided organizations through complex data privacy challenges, helping them develop compliance strategies for U.S. and international privacy laws. He also worked closely with software development teams to ensure privacy principles were embedded into product features. His background in incident response includes working with forensic investigators, law enforcement, and regulatory bodies to help clients navigate high-stakes cybersecurity incidents while minimizing legal and reputational risks.
He is accredited by the International Association of Privacy Professionals as a Certified Information Privacy Professional for the United States, widely regarded as the gold standard certification for U.S. privacy law. Garrett is also accredited by the IAPP as a Certified Information Privacy Professional for Europe, a Certified Information Privacy Manager, and a Certified Information Privacy Technologist.
Garrett received a J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law, an M.B.A. from Georgia State University Robinson College of Business and a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.
