Overview
Jamie Pingor is an experienced intellectual property attorney who counsels clients ranging from startups to mid-size organizations to Fortune 50 corporations on domestic and international patent preparation, prosecution, procurement, and litigation. His practice also focuses on intellectual property risk management, trademark analysis, clearance procurement, cancellations, oppositions, litigation and dispute resolution, and domain/URL and copyright matters.
Jamie also assists clients with intellectual property portfolio development, patent and trademark clearance and infringement analysis, validity and enforcement issues, enforcement and defense, freedom-to-operate analysis, patentability analysis, innovation ideation, and licensing matters. His patent procurement knowledge is complemented by considerable experience negotiating agreements that involve intellectual property. These transactional matters include asset purchase and strategic alliance agreements, sponsored research agreements, joint development agreements, confidentiality agreements, co-existence agreements, technology license agreements, among others. Jamie’s clients operate in a diverse array of industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, software, finance, higher education, technology, and research and development.
Outside of his intellectual property practice, Jamie has experience handling corporate matters and emerging business issues. He counsels clients through every stage of business formation and structuring, most often as it relates to tech-based companies and/or intellectual property matters.
Prior to joining McDonald Hopkins, Jamie served as the Chair of the IP section was a member of the Executive Committee at a top ten Cleveland law firm. He also served as the Co-Chair of the IP Section and Partner-in-Charge of the Cleveland office of a general practice law firm based in Columbus. Before the start of his legal practice, Jamie spent several years as an electrical engineer in the electric utility industry. He earned his J.D. from Capital University School of Law and his B.S.E.E. from the University of Pittsburgh.
